This Might Help
Key Takeaway
Focusing on service, not self-image, can lighten fear and renew confidence.
Transcript
When we feel nervous or insecure, it’s often because we’re focused on ourselves—how we’re being perceived, what could go wrong.
But continuing on the ‘prosocial’ theme here, there’s a small mindset shift that can make a big difference. You can ask yourself: “How might this help someone else?”
For example, if you’re nervous before a presentation or meeting, remind yourself: “I’m here to be helpful—to share something that might make someone else’s life easier.”
Or if you're anxious about a job interview, think: “This is a chance to offer my skills in service of their needs.”
The trick here is that shifting the focus away from yourself and toward contribution calms the ego and reactivates motivation - another sign that we are wired for this!
