Pro-Social Reflections
This is about pausing and giving yourself the space to reflect on the positive impact you may have had on others in the last 6-months or more, from speaking words of support or giving a helping hand through to showing gratitude.
From making meals on repeat, checking in with loved ones through to trying to helps kids with their homework, or support colleagues at work, we often do more than we think in this area and/or can tend to overlook the positive impact we may have on others. As an act of self-compassion really, it's worth reflecting on this.
How to practise it:
Pick some of these questions to help you reflect:
o Who might you have made even a tiny positive difference to in the last six months and how?
o What positive feedback from others might you have overlooked or played down recently?
o Who have you shown care to recently, even if it’s in ways you tend to downplay? Even words of support can make a big difference to someone's day.
o Who did you have a positive connection with recently and can you see the role you played in that?
Tips for practising and personalisation:
- Instead of thinking in terms of 'I had to' simply acknowledge what you did for others.
- Even if thoughts like 'yes, but everyone does that' comes up, let it go... your kindness and support doesn't need to be unique to have made a positive impact on the person receiving it.
- Write it down... it will help you process and embed your reflections even more.
Reflection
Who did I support today... in my words, my actions or even in routine ways I may normally overlook?
