This exercise even works without sending the letter or visiting the person - simply going through the exercise of reflecting on the ways in which you feel grateful to them can boost wellbeing.
Key Takeaway
Showing our gratitude to others supports us, and our relationship with them.
Transcript
How to practice it
Simply write a letter to someone you have never properly thanked. Focussing on how they helped you and the benefit to you. By all means, send the letter but this exercise works even if you don’t send the letter.
Feel free to deliver the letter in-person and read it to the person you are thanking (when it’s possible to do that again).
This is shown to be one of the most effective exercises to increase well-being. It’s also a good one for enhancing relationships.
Tips for practising and personalising
o A ‘social visit’ to express gratitude may be more appropriate for extraverts but right now, a phone-call might have to do.
