Svastha: Returning to the Self
Key Takeaway
Health in Ayurveda is defined as svastha — “to be seated in the self.” This teaching reminds us that true wellbeing is not just physical; it is the integration of all layers of our being — the body, energy, mind, emotions, intuition, and soul. When we create nourishment, rhythm, boundaries, and steadiness in our daily lives, we return to this deeper seat of ourselves rather than operating from stress, ego, or survival mode. This lesson invites a reconnection with wholeness and alignment.

The last thing — and then we'll move on to questions — the word for health in Ayurveda is svastha, and it's a beautiful word. It means to be seated, seated in the self. And so we always work with the physical body in Ayurveda because it really impacts the deeper energetic levels of our being.
We have our energetic body, our mind and our emotions, our intuitive body, and then the deepest seat of our system is the soul. And as we do this work, it really creates this integration between all these layers of being.
And so this idea of really being seated and whole and contained and having healthy boundaries, but not feeling so restricted that we can't go out and be in the world and be alive… I just love that idea of really being in our integrated place — our true, deeper self — rather than just kind of running from the ego.
And I just wanted to share that word because I think it’s a really beautiful one.
